We decided to give Owen the opportunity to run track this year if he wanted. It is just a 6 week "season" and seemed like a great, low-pressure way to introduce him to track and field competition. It is a "fun first" atmosphere and I'm not positive, but I think everyone in involved in this particular group is kindergarten and first grade. They do a number of sprints, a relay race, the standing broad jump, and a ball throw (baseball).
He was so excited! Collin and Quinn are both in at as well (Quinn is even on O's team) and all three will be going on to play soccer right after track so we have been framing it as training/conditioning for soccer season as well.
Owen is not that fast right now but his pure enjoyment of all he is doing is a beautiful thing to behold. He does not care at all if he is the slowest one out there. He just wants to participate and get better. He is constantly excited and showcases the very best aspects of team spirit and a "can do" attitude. I gotta tell ya, he makes it very easy for his parents to be proud of him.
Look at that intensity!
OK, his form could use a little work. ;-)
A shot of Quinn and O in the same race.
Look at the leap!
Oh, I guess it wasn't as far as it looked.
Happy for his team mates.
A race with Quinn, Owen, and Collin.
O takes off after getting his "high five" from his team mate in the relay shuttle
Atta boy Owen!! How fun! Love that smile! Good soccer training and general conditioning. Waiting to hear about soccer tool Nani
