Babysittin' da Boys

Karen and I took a much needed vacation to see Nate and Julie in Denver without the boys over the first weekend of March. We had a blast. While we were away, my mom and dad (Nani and Papa) babysat the boys. Thankfully, they all had a great time too. Of course, the little dudes tired them out but a lot of that was from the constant fun. In between naps and bedtime and meals and diaper changes there was lots of reading books, drawing and cutting out pictures, Play-doh creations, block building, playing with toys (or with Papa crammed inside the collapsible tunnel), watching Diego, and taking walks outside. Owen was particularly amazed by the ice forming on puddles outside this time of year and the trapped air bubbles visible underneath. Even though he soaked himself below the knees, he didn't want to go home. He and my dad stayed out and played in the water long after my mom and Logan had called it quits. Spoiler alert: As might be expected, this would not be the last time the boy went ape for cold water puddles.

Logan had been walking before we left (maximum 15 steps but averaging 6 steps at a time) but he turned it up a notch in our absence and we returned to find him REALLY WALKING! All over. Almost all the time. He still knows that if he wants a burst of speed crawling is the way to go but he chooses to walk more and more often. Whew! He's such a solid kid that both Karen's and my back are happy to hear that we don't have to carry him everywhere anymore. We were also gratified to hear about (and see in the many photos my mom took) how well the brothers played together. They are continuing to strengthen their bond. I guess there is nothing like having the "silly fat baby" attain "toddlerhood" to show Owen that he now truly has a playmate on his hands. Good times.

As usual, the following is a small sample of the pics my mom (and dad) took over the long weekend.

Waz up Papa?

Yep, that's my dad inside the tunnel.

Proud block engineer.
1 of a few shots proving Nani was there too!
Nani and O create Play-doh masterpieces.

A good day for a walk in Minnesota means putting on ALL of your warm weather gear.

A man, his grandson, a stick, and an ice covered puddle. What more do you need?

Logi is now a walkin' fool!

  1. A really fun time to get to know the boys better. Both have such strong personalities....and so different! We loved the chance to have the uninterrupted time, though we did indeed need a nap when we got home! Just think of how different it will be next time!! It will be a great summer as they explore together. Nani
