Ainslie Camping - Little Girls Point - Mom's Camera

On Thursday, August 14, we loaded up the boys and headed north. Our destination was the campground at Little Girls Point. It is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - right on the shore of Lake Superior. It is a spot with its own legends and myths and has had long been a tourist/camping destination. There are plenty of agates to be found among the rocks of the beach and the idyllic location has had a public campground and private lodge for many, many decades. It is only a 15 minutes drive from my parent's house and is a spot that the Ainslies have visited often over the years. This was our first time camping there however.

It was a great time. My parents had been hosting their annual "Camp Pop a Nan" with Ella in the days previous (Owen will likely attend next year) and were capping off their week of fun with a few days camping. They had Fergus and Ian (both very well behaved) with them and were finally getting to test their new (ish) pop up trailer.

There was a decent park with a new kid friendly playground nearby, beach access to swim (or wade if you prefer) in Lake Superior, a very accessible (and perfect length) hiking trail right across the road, the weather was nearly perfect, and amazingly, the biting bugs were almost non-existent (we did catch a beetle in Owen's bug catcher, though). Nighttime glow sticks were a big hit. Also, (as always) there were card games, playing with rocks and sticks, jumping off of things, some soccer practice, water gun shooting, and a sling shot demonstration or two.

As is the case with all public camping, there is a chance you get a stupid, self-absorbed, disrespectful (often meaning loud and drunk) neighbor. We had ours. Added some tension and frustration to the days that he was there but not enough to ruin things for us.

Not surprisingly, there were many pictures taken. I decided to post a dozen or so of my favorite pics (including lots of the posed shots Mom set up) from Mom's camera in this entry and then do the same for pics from our camera in another.
