On December 7, Karen took the boys to a Breakfast with Santa event at their daycare. She went alone this time because I was off getting our free Christmas tree from our friends Ben and Mel (turns out they ordered a tree through a charity event ahead of time but were going to have too many people in their small(ish) house over Christmas to put it up). It was a -25 degree windchill day and Ben and I froze a bit picking the tree up at the lot. On top of that, we had our friends Nate and Julie visiting from Colorado so there were lots of logistics to work out on this particular weekend. There will be other posts and pictures coming up soon to cover that other stuff.
This year, both boys ate a good breakfast but then both cried at the sight of Santa. The daycare teachers swooped in to the rescue! Owen's teacher, "Miss Kari," was able to quickly turn off his tears and get him happy and comfortable talking to the big man. Owen really likes her and it has been clear for awhile that she has a special place in her heart for him as well. As for the efforts to bring Logan around ... not so much. Nice try but he wouldn't even get in the same room.
Once he was comfortable, Owen talked and talked and talked and talked to Santa. No surprise there. The boy has a way with words. Afterwards, Karen was able to keep both boys in line long enough to have a caricature artist do a fantastic picture of the two brothers (pic possibly coming later). Then, Karen had Logan dress up like Santa in his sleigh. Owen took his role as a reindeer seriously and on his own initiative decided to up the realism quotient; getting down on all
fours for the photo op. Though Karen admitted it was a bit stressful with the melt downs and the press of people attending, it was a very successful morning.

What a fun morning! (even with the cold!) Santa will soon be a very good friend for both boys..I love the reindeer! Logan makes a pretty good Santa's elf. Nani
